July Updates, Tournament & Happy Independence Day

Sid Meier's Civilization Revolution releases on July 7th.

Another month goes by and the march continues. Happy Fourth of July to all of our members living in America! We wish you a safe & happy holiday. The summer is off to a slow start for the gaming community. Few major game releases remain while most continue to anticipate the releases scheduled for fall (Gears of War 2, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, Halo Wars, etc.). Xbox Nation has made a few cosmetic changes, but still the same site that you know & (maybe) love.

Halo 3 Tournament
Upon suggestion from Welsh, Xbox Nation is proud to announce its first Halo 3 tournament. Under the direction of GoCrzy, the tournament will consist of Team Doubles matches on maps of all varieties. Welsh will be selecting numerous maps and gametypes to match, including some custom creations from the Forge engine. What will you win? The prize is still to be determined, but at the very least, bragging rights over the entire forum. PlayStation 3’s Epic Fail
A thread posted by GoCrzy reports that Sony has lost over $3 billion dollar on the PS3. The money will be considered a loss if the PS3 does not achieve “favorable market penetration” according to Sony. The Xbox 360 and Nintendo Wii continue to outsell the PlayStation 3, but Sony is preparing for releases including Metal Gear Solid 4 and Resistance 2. Will these two titles be enough to stabilize an entire platform? Read the full article at: http://www.xboxnation.net/forums/oth...ps3-fails.html

Cold Storage is the newest Halo 3 map, possibly launching on Bungie Day (July 7th).

Bungie Day

Bungie Day (7/7) is quickly approaching us. Bungie has already confirmed a number of goodies including themes and gamerpics that will be available for download only on July 7th. It is also been widely circulated that the newest Halo 3 map, "Cold Storage" will be released as a free download. While this is only speculation, it is entirely likely given that the map appears complete. Check out more screenshots of Cold Storage at: Bungie.net : Inside Bungie : News

Rainbow Six Vegas 2: The Fan Pack
Ubisoft announced the latest update for Rainbow Six Vegas 2. The update, a free release, will launch in July and includes three new maps and numerous gameplay changes. These changes favor increased competitive gaming in the form of a new game mode, “High Stakes.” Additionally, 100 levels have been added to the Elite rank and each component of the A.C.E.S. system allows players to reach level 100 for each type of kill. The new maps are all tweaks and remakes, but they will bring a much needed freshening to the tactical shooter. Read the full press release at: http://www.xboxnation.net/forums/pre...-fan-pack.html

July Game Releases
July is undoubtedly one of the slowest release months for the Xbox 360 (perhaps August will be worse?). You can check out the Sid Meier’s Civilization Revolution demo, available for free on the Xbox Live marketplace. Built from the ground up for the console, it may achieve where many other Real Time Strategy games have failed.

Xbox Nation’s Updates
The forums have been upgraded to the latest version of vBulletin, version 3.7.2. The forum now utilizes Xbox Live gamercard images from MyGamerCard.net instead of displaying the Xbox.com Gamercard. This switch frees up more horizontal room, allowing the signature size limit to be increased to 550 horizontal pixels. A large majority of users visiting our website use the 1024x768 screen resolution so maintaining the horizontal size limit is crucial for the proper displaying of page.

Finally, attached to this announcement is Xbox Nation's statistics for June of 2008. Google Analytics tracks the website's traffic and shows where the largest concentration of users visit and the websites that get them here. We continue to do well with search engines and the Adsense campaign is bringing brand new users to the site. Keep up the work & the shameless plugs!
