Default Mass Effect moving to the big screen?

Mass Effect may be coming to the movies as Variety reports that rights have been secured to produce a film based the BioWare/EA owned title. The film is only in the planning stage.

Quote:
During the Austin Game Developers Conference earlier this week, BioWare spoke at length on the various cinematic techniques it employed to enhance the interactive storytelling in Mass Effect. It now appears as if BioWare may be able to see how it works the other way around. Variety is reporting this week that ex-Marvel CEO Avi Arad has optioned the rights to produce a film based on the EA-owned property.

Variety reports that the film is still in a planning stage, with Arad likely looking to attach a writer, director, and studio to the project. It's worth noting that a myriad of gaming properties have been optioned by Hollywood players to no result in the past, including NCsoft's City of Heroes, Midway's The Suffering, and Arad's own EverQuest. EA and BioWare had not responded to GameSpot's requests for comment as of press time.

Eh, It would be a hard transaction to make such a huge Universe into 2 to 3 hours of film.

Yah, it would be. Theyd have to make the first game into a multi movie series!

Im pretty sure they can do it.

They'll probably cut off alot of stuff, but it will be interesting to see something like that unfold into a movie I look forward to it.

If they made the movie to focus on nothing but the MAIN Story, its certainly do able.

It would make a pretty good film I think. It would be expensive though, with the exception of the Asari (and maybe the Krogan) all the aliens would have to be CGI.

And especially if you are just basing time off the major cut scenes featured within the game, I think that it could be possible to fit the major story elements into a movie slot. Whether or not it would do the Mass Effect franchise justice is another story.

Yeah Mass Effect had alot of stuff that really didn't contribute to the main story. There were alot of side storys that was just extra content.

They could do it.
