Opinions regarding advertisements

Currently I am deciding whether or not to begin implementation of advertisements on the website. These ads would be generated by Google Adsense, they would not be pop-ups or outrageous annoyances like on some websites. These ads would dynamically generate, based upon that page's content. I'm sure most of you have seen these ads on some types of website.

Why am I considering ads?
Source of revenue. Running this website is not free, obviously. There are certain monthly & yearly fees that need to be considered. With additional funds, it also permits existing features to be expanded. It would also permit contests that have substantial prizes, such as Microsoft points, t-shirts and things of that nature.

Why am I asking?
I originally formed the website because I was tired of other certain Halo forums where I was completely & totally annoyed by ads. They stuck ads everywhere they could possibly find space. I didn't appreciate advertisements everywhere, so that's why HN launched ad-free.

What am I considering?
Right now I'm considering all small scale ads. The ads would appear in small places like the navbar and would not affect pages in a negative manner. Additionally more substantial ads would be shown for guests. As soon as you complete registration, the majority of any ads would be removed.

How productive would these ads be?
Depends on how many opt to click on them. Based upon the XFS website, every click ranges somewhere from $.03 to $.15 for each unique click. If you consider 2000 visitors, it could be substantial in a longer run.

So what are your opinions?

as long as they aren't the annoying as hell ones that talk to you.

I had "Congratulations, You have won an XBox 360" being said by some wierd sounding chick stuck in my head for a while from some other sites.

Alright, let's give it a go. I've added the first two. One above the quick reply. Another underneath the navbar. If they are bothersome, I'll restrict them to guests only.

I hate annoying ads, but this site is fine. I never really notice them until now. click... click....click.... enjoy your nine cents. Don't spend it all at one place.
